BRIEF STORY

-///- Sayaka Ohata & Joseph Mayrhofer-Ohata, known as M-O (Mayrhofer-Ohata), are a polyglot, internationally active artist duo. -///- The artistic projects of M-O find usually form in a triptyque : they use books, installations, and video performances as tools to explore and stage moments of instability. It is an essential part of their interventions to give things form in relation and through these three different media. -///- Sayaka Ohata (Japan) graduated in Media Art from the Tama Art University in Tokyo (with Seiko Mikami & Yukiko Shikata) before moving to France to develop her artistic approach in Beaux-Arts (with Matthieu Laurette). She has participated in various group exhibitions in Japan & internationally, as well as her first solo exhibition being shown in Taipei (2014). Sayaka has also participated in artist residency programs in France, Finland, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand & works as an artist based in Tokyo & Paris. -///- Joseph Mayrhofer-Ohata (Austria) lives & works in-between Vienna, Tokyo & Paris. Trained as a surgery assistant, he worked in an operational theatre for heart surgery before studying art history, romance languages & philosophy with a strong leaning towards poetry & poetics. In 2012, Joseph founded the Editions JMO Vasistas, a platform for experimental artist-publications. He curated exhibitions in Japan (together with Sayaka) & participated in residential artist programs in Europe & South Asia. With this multiplicity of profiles, he works as an artiste, editor, curator & traveller. -///- Under the sign of this unexpected constellation, Sayaka & Joseph started their official collaboration with a work called « Inner Dance » in 2014. Playfully trying to follow the unfolding footsteps of their own future, they try constantly to push things forward & research together, embarking on a series of residencies in Thailand, Japan & Finland. -///-
